2day in SF

—- Today is a share out of 2 full days in San Fransisco, California.

Night 1: arrival to SF

Due to the delay of the flight, we arrived pretty late to San Fransisco. The hotel takes a 40 minutes ride from air-port. It’s good that the street is really quiet and seems to be pretty safe, I guess that’s because it’s near University of California, Berkeley campus.

After checking in, we quickly head to across the street for a 8:00pm dinner. There are two Chinese restaurant right in front of the hotel: “Yin Ji Chang Fen” and “Easterly Hunan Cuisine”. My mom always want to eat something that’s heavy taste and spice when she’s hungry, so we head to the Easterly Hunan Cuisine.

We had a noodle that night, my mom had a beef noodle and I had a veggie and egg noodle. The noodle I had was less than five dollar but I still had a great meal.

Day 1: Visit University of California, Berkeley

Since we’ve been to San Fransisco before and this trip meant to be relaxing, we only scheduled for the visit to the university and perhaps a tour in the town.

I actually planed to chose a hotel in San Fransisco’s downtown at first, but my dad strongly opposed my plan because he think it’s too dangerous for my mom and I to live in downtown. However, now the advantage of the hotel has completely shown, walking to the university is so convenient.

We walked in from the west door of the university. It’s a big campus and it’s really beautiful in there. Though there are lots of hills and slopes, climbing upon them you will find a different view of Berkeley downtown.

The bell tower is one of the most famous view point in the university. In the elevator of getting to the top of the tower, we met a family who both parents are graduated from UC and they are bringing their young child here for a visit.

There are different views of San Fransisco looking from each side of the tower.

In the middle of the visit, we went out from the north door of the campus to get a drink. There are cuisine out of each side of the campus, and for this side of the campus, the cuisines are meanly south Asian flavor.

I got a matcha drink from this café and I won’t recommend it. There’s a kind of very watery taste in it. The environment is pretty unique and the decor is exactly the same as the picture from online.

It took us about three hours to walk through the whole campus, but since it’s a long weekend, a lot of the architecture are closed. I saw from online that sometimes they will be open to visitors.

After the long walk we went for a Sichuan restaurant, which is my mom’s favorite cooking style, the Chengdu Style Restaurant. It’s at the southeast side of the campus. I feel like this restaurant combined a lot of US flavor, it’s not traditional Sichuan cuisine. I saw a lot of Chinese recommending it but my mom nor I will definitely not.

We decide to take a different path, which is walking outside of the campus back to hotel.

On the way back, I got a bubble tea from a random shop I saw beside the street. It was okay, not bad but nothing special.

The day ended with going back to the hotel and I was doing my homework for the rest of the day.

Day 2: Downtown San Fransisco

We start our second but last full day by visiting the San Fransisco museum of Modern Art, which is located nearly to SF downtown.

There’s a free fair on second floor that day, so good for us that we enjoyed a free visit.

We saw a lot of interesting art piece there, and this is one of my favorite painting.

There are master piece of different styles and they are all very unique.

Since only one fair is for free so we didn’t spent very long time in there, and after the trip in the museum is just city walk (I don’t know why but this term suddenly seems to be so famous) in the downtown.

The downtown is cleaner and better than what we’ve expected, and since it’s a long weekend there’s not a lot of people on the street. This is actually pretty interesting, on the way to the museum, I asked the Uber driver why didn’t we saw a lot of people outside and he told me that people living in San Fransisco tend to go to the beach during vacations.

In the middle of all the streets and buildings, there is a open area like this with some colorful tables and chairs in it. My mom told me she remember this place, before one or two decades, she had been to this place and her friend had even been robbed somewhere around.

Afternoon, it was when we were standing in front of the union square that we realized that we haven’t have any meal yet. Walking into The Rotunda, we were expecting to have a neat and delicious afternoon tea, but unfortunately, even though it was 2:00 in the afternoon, they said there are only lunch menu available because afternoon tea requires reservation. Though it was still really good!

We then went to the union square. There were a lot of people from different ages gathering here enjoying their activities. It was a joyful and relaxing afternoon. By the way my mom took a picture of me without notifying me and it turns out to be the best picture of this trip.

Our last activity in downtown was walking to the ferry building. It took us about twenty minutes walking there, and we took another twenty minutes walk to a place where it’s cheaper to call a Uber. We were there too late that most of the shops are close already. I bet it’s going to be very fun if all them are open.

We head back to our hotel around 6:00pm and went to the Easterly Hunan Cuisine again. Instead of having noodles, this time we had a good meal with traditional Chinese dishes. I would strongly recommend that restaurant, it was really good, the price is in a good range, and also the chef we met there was really nice.

Last morning in San Fransisco:

After having the last breakfast in the hotel —- by the way the breakfast was not good, it was exactly same cook eggs, sausage, bread and drinks every morning—- we head to the airport ready for our departure.

Not surprisingly, the flight delay again, but anyway, we’ve got plenty of good memories that I can forgive this small imperfect.
