Yesterday, we performed the famous play, Peking Man, written by Cao Yu, in Bellevue Meydenbauer theater.

I joined Seattle Chinese Culture Theater half year ago, performing as Yuan Yuan in this play. However, other people in the theater had already started preparing for this play two years ago, right at the time when covid started. Our practice started from once a week, to twice a week, and till last month it was three or four times a week. All the preparation we did, and all the hard work we’ve done are just for yesterday, for the show we preformed.
I really enjoyed this process. I first started drama acting when I was around three years old. My mom helps the church to plan for the Christmas showcase every year. I always admires those actors who get to stand on the stage, so I love to watch them during their practice every week. While time pass by, I don’t even know how, but I just memorized everyone’s line from the play. Then, I went to beg my mom for a chance to attend the play, which got rejected (she told me it’s because there is already actress doing the play, she can’t just let me replace that person). Though, what she said didn’t get me down, I went to everyone from the show, begging them to give me the chance to act in the play, begging them to stand on my side and convince my mom for the chance. Eventually, I got the chance. My mom allowed me to perform apart of the show, and the original actress perform the other part. The show turned out to be fascinating. My dad even forgot to take videos when he’s watching my show.
This experience of performing ended when I entered middle school, because I don’t have time for practice anymore.
Now, I have the chance again to join back to what I’ve enjoy doing in the past. Even though the show had ended, this part of the memories are always a treasure.
