Since my mom just went back to China two weeks ago, and since my roommate got covid I can’t go back to live in the dorm, I am going to celebrate this new year by myself, for the first time of my life.
I never celebrated new year by myself before. The lunar new year, in China, is a really big holiday, a very significant festival, the most important celebration of the year. Usually, when I’m back at home in China, we want to celebrate this day with a lot of people, all families and friends. When I was younger, when my grandma was still alive, we go back to Hubei, where my dad is originated, to celebrate lunar new year with the whole family group. We have great meals everyday, lots of delicious foods, we have a lot of family friends together, there are also a lot of table games and red envelopes. If we stayed in Beijing for lunar new year, it will be just my family together for new year eve and new year day, but lots of family friends together for days afterwards. Anyway, the new year is always a day that represents joilification.
It’s going to be different this year, because I’m all alone.
Some of my mom’s friends had invited me to celebrate new year with them, but to be honest, I’m not familiar with them and I don’t want to celebrate with them. I think it’s actually going to be a pretty unique experience to celebrate new year by myself. I’m going to make myself a lot of delicious foods, and have some nice time enjoying myself.
Here’s the menu I created for new year eve: tomato and beef(番茄肥牛), fried fish(煎鱼), sugar calabash(冰糖葫芦), pomegranate juice(石榴汁), rice(白米饭)
Menu for the breakfast of new year day: red bean soup with dumpling(红豆粥汤圆)
Happy Early New Year everyone! Wish you a good new year.
