Some thoughts about China’s covid situation

Just a few minutes ago, my friend in China told me that she was told not to go to school this morning, because of Covid, all students in that area were prohibited from going to school. They were either sent home or got a notification very early in the morning telling them get ready for online classes.

The daily covid test are still going on. People are still being asked to do covid test every day. There is a station in every apartment, every park, asking people to go and do covid test everyday. There is a mini program on WeChat, it is connected to government’s system, it can keep in track of if you did covid test everyday. If you did covid test and your test result is negative, the program will provide you with a green QR code. Wherever you go, you will be required to scan your green QR code at the entrance. If there are anyone in that building as the same time as you was detected that got Covid later, everyone who’s in the building at that time will be required to quarantine. Then you QR code will turn red. No one’s going to watch after you if you are doing self quarantine or not, but with that code in hand, no where will accept you, everyone will know from your code that you are a close contact. If you forgot to do covid test and your test result had past 24 hours, you will have a yellow code, it means that people aren’t able to tell if you are safe or not, you still can’t go anywhere.

I don’t even remember when’s the first time the government decided that people need to do covid tests everyday. This is getting wild. I searched the chat history of me and my friend, I feel like she sent me message like “I’m on my way to do covid test” every month. I can’t imagine how much money the government had spent on doing this. The US had been careless about the covid situation for about more than half a year, and nothing happened. Even this year’s January, when everyone’s back from holiday and there was a peak of infection, my school decided that we will do covid test everyday, but still there are only a part of the students doing covid test each day, and the school wasn’t shut down.

I mean, I completely understand that there are a few great differences between the two countries and the government took different strategies about covid, though, I don’t think what China is currently doing is actually good for citizens. I understand that China is much more densely populated, and I understand that there are slight difference between China and the US’s virus… I am not a politician and I don’t know that much about politic, I just wish the best for China.
