As a in person freshman in my school

This article will be a recording of my first week at school.

Quarantine

To insure the safety for me and other students, when I get back at school at Apr4, which is the day right before trimester 3, the first thing that I’m facing was quarantine.

I’ve learn something about quarantine before I get back to school, it sounds pretty scary—— we are’t aloud to go out of our dorm room! But in fact, the flexibility was way more better than I first notice. As long as you are sure there was no other people around, you are actually aloud to hang in common space for some fresh air. Also, if you took the covid test, and had shown negative, you are welcome to finish quarantine earlier, so I only quarantined for four days!

And totally no worries about how to eat meal or use restroom. Restroom using was totally free. And for meals, there are residential advisors who will bring in meals for you to dorm, so you can eat it in your room, and finish them without needing to get touch with anyone else.

The residential advisor will knock on your door, tell you your meals was here, and put them by, you will just open your door and grab them.

Here’s a picture taken when I have my dinner.

Food

Before coming to this school, I had lots of worries and uncertain about the meals of our school. From website and lots of other ways, I heard that our school’s meals are delicious, but I’m more used to eat Chinese dishes, maybe students native will love those dishes our school provide, but does it also suit for international students?

Then when I get to school, I found that my thoughts are totally unnecessary worries!

Dishes our school provide are not only suit for native, but also for students all over the world. Rice that Chinese or Japanese like, bread that American likes…And we also provide vegetarian dish! So students who are more likely to eat meals without meat can also get what they want!

By the way, there’s juice, milk, soda, and ice creams provide in the dinning halls’s refrigerator. The cookie and cream ice cream is my favorite! I love it!

Weekend at dorm

At weekend, dorm will provide various activities, maybe going out to park, or maybe even to several mountains. Other than that, we can also choose to hang out to malls or cafe, which I always like to go to the whole food that took a ten minutes walking down. Just to buy some fruit, drinks, or maybe even a bunch of flower. But it was always great to feel the sunshine and take a little walk. However, to ensure students safety, we are only aloud to go outdoor when we have two, or more than two people together.

Study life at dorm

Studying at dorm is actually, for me, way more better than studying at home, with efficient, and with people around that can provide help for you at anytime.

At daytime, when we are taking online class alone in our room, RA will come around and knock on your door, reminding you it’s time for class, which is actually very helpful for me, because when I was at home, I sometimes run late for my class because I forgot about the time, or my time for lunch some how had conflicted with my class time, which won’t happens now at dorm.

Then after school, we have study hall at 8:30-9:30, which students go out to common space to study together, and RAs will provide studying help for us especially at this time (even though you are welcome to ask for help all days long). It was a concentrated time of learning, that’s quiet and without other interruption. After study hall, gym will be open from 9:30-10:30, you are welcome to go and play or exercise.

At 10:30, common area, will be close, 11:00 for room checking in, to make sure you are safe and in your own room, and the internet connection will be shut down at 1:00AM.

For me, dorm feels like home, as well as feeling like school.

As home, you get all you want and might need here, we approach each other as family, and we are as free as we are at home. RAs are not like a teacher here, but more likely to be part of your family, your parents, they help you on work, and also maybe sitting together to play games. At weekend, if you can’t find a friend to go with you, you can also find a RA to go out together. You are aloud to organize your own time, and do what you want at free time, just like what it was like at home.

On the other hand, it was also like school, with other students that can study or just play together. You have people around that can provide you academics support, with better study environment.

So now, in less than two weeks, I already infuse with the dorm’s life and going along pretty well. And I’m very looking forward to my future life in the dorm!
